seeding material for fishless cycling

So I got rid of all my fish that I had crowded on my 5gallon tank and I plan on cycling my 5 gallon and 20 gallon. I made A deal with the person I gave my fish to I give them fish they give me a rock from their tank that has been running for 15+ yrs this rock has lots of green algae on it is this a good seeding material ?

It'll help. Some filter media from their filter would be even better, though.
