Starting the fishless tank cycle..?

I have everything ready in the tank and I have my Ph/Ammonia reader in the tank for about an hour, the Ph is at 7.4, and the ammonia reader seems to be the same color as when I first put it in there.. is that correct?
It is a Mardel Master Test Kit

Did you put ammonia in? What is the ammonia reader? The best way is to just use a liquid titration ammonia test.

I have not added ammonia yet, i have added some food and removed it. It's all like on a palette..
