I had a garden eel who was doing fine until yesterday when I found him swimming freely. I noticed that about an inch and a half of his tail was gone. I suspect the rogue xanthid crab that's in there. I've tried to catch him but he escapes every trap. I removed the eel and put him in a bucket, added some bio bandage. I didn't think he'd make it overnight but he's still alive right now. I've read conflicting articles on eel wounds, some saying they are doomed, others saying that they can regenerate a tail and spinal cord. Anybody have information on wounded garden eels?

I dont know about eels but fish in general can regenerate missing parts like tail and fins. The only thing to worry about is a secondary bacterial infection.

Well it was more than just his fins. He's missing about an inch off his body
