Been out of fresh water for a while and a friend's tank has ich. There are neons and other community fish in that tank and most of them have ich.

In the past, I've used both the salt and increase heat method and also medication with success.

Was wondering what the preferred method is now?

If medication, what's a good brand/type?

If salt, how much salt per gallon?

Thanks!

no salt or meds required.

Gradually turn up the heat to about 87F, then leave it there until the ick is gone. Continue to have that tempoerature for about a week and a half after the ick is gone then bring the temperature down gradually.

Agreed the heat method is the best and safest. Also add extra aeration to the tank or lower the water level a bit to increase oxygen.
