Hi Guys,

Fairly new 4ft setup, fully cycled using media from my other tanks before fish were migrated.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2.5 (just after 20% water change)
PH 7.2
KH 55
GH 90

He is part of a pair of rams I've had for a few months. Healthy and happily swimming around with his mate. No aggressive behavior witnessed. They haven't spawned that I have noticed.

Today I noticed he has a small pink/red lump on his right side of his lip. Nothing on the left. Pics should help

Anyone know what this is?

Ive read some fish will mouth/lip nip when sexual maturity is reached and they want to mate.

Could this be possible?

Looks like he was lip locking with a dirty girl;)

So quick update. He isn't looking good at all. Very quiet and sat at the bottom of the tank. I've quarantined him and put in some multi-cure I had in the cupboard. Sad times. Lady-ram looks very lonely.

is this affecting his eating? is he lethargic from lack of food?

Having a closer look... looks fungal, can you do a salt dip?

Thanks for the advice guys but he died about two hours after I posted last night. I'm gutted. He was my favorite fish.

I use stress coat for water changes and chucked some in last night as a desperate measure.

I'll get some of that artemiss though.

:(

Op: Ignore guppy44 posts. Horrible advice. I hope it didn't attribute to the death of your ram. This person thinks these two chemicals are cure alls for every issue when it simply isn't true. They've posted this exact same thing in at least 6 other threads including saltwater (insert eyeroll here).

No I think he was gone from the moment the lump appeared on his lip. Poor female is now very lonely. I'll get another one in a few weeks when I'm sure no other fish have problems.

Thanks for the advice.
