The 55 gallon has a marineland C 350 and an aqua tech 30-60. The five gallon has an aqueon quiet flow 20.

If you must change the filter media try burying the new pad in the sub-straight, for at least two weeks to get the good bacteria started. Have you considered switching to a different type of filter?

Yes I’d be willing to switch filters. I might have to already as I’ve been having some problems with my marineland. The Biowheels aren’t spinning and water seems to be spraying out everywhere.

You don't need those bio wheels. The filter is good enough. I had one like yours and was tired of replacing the wheels once they warped.
