i dont really know why but my 4 zebra danios have become quite pale recently. they all lost their blackish stripes that were so predominant at the lfs, but the past few days they have been almost tan looking. does anyone know what is up with them and if they are healthy?

Typically, fish getting darker or lighter indicates stress. There are a lot of factors that can help us figure out what may be going on though. Can you star by answering the following questions (you can ignore question 1)?

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?

no but they are acting fine. they are eating fine, swimming around a lot, and schooling.

Sometimes my danios get lighter in color, but get better in a day or two. See what happens, fish arent always vibrantly colored. Just like humans, not many of them look good in the morning, but gets better as the day goes on. How long have they been dull?

for a while now. there might be a few reasons. is it possible for them to lose color from the light being on too much. i have my light on from about 7 to 10-11 every day. also i think that i started to get an algae bloom because there is algae growing all over the gravel and the water looks cloudy. could that be the reason?
