Sick Betta-White Stuff

I want to start by saying thanks for reading, my betta appreciates any and all suggestions. I've tried all that I can think of but nothing works.

My betta is sick and he has white stuff coming out of his side, it looks like an open wound. He was in a fully cycled tank when he got it and it was big enough for him (10 gal for two bettas with divider in the middle, so 5 gal/fish). He's now in a 2.5 gal quarantine tank and is being treated with melafix (in quantities safe for betas) and general cure (by API).

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, it was just past the gills.

I started to treat him with tetracycline a few days ago and the open wound went away. He's also eating! He's still sitting on the sponge filter but I think it's a step in the right direction.
