tail rot

how contagious is tail rot?
i have a about 25 fish in a 55. all are fine except 2 platys who are experiencing tail rot and a kuhli loach that just isnt doing very well. i medicated them in a hospital tank with maracyn tc. 1 platy seems to have shaken the tail rot and looks like is starting to regrow a little. the other one looks worse.

the kuhli loach never got better. labored breathing, very skinny and loss of appetite are the symptoms.

i have been having trouble with nitrites recently and have been doing daily 30% pwc's.

suggestions, comments, questions please...!?

I know this is a bit old but I saw you had no replies. I would continue to QT the fish that you suspect have fin rot. I am not sure if it is contagious, I'm pretty sure it is, so QT'ing would be preferred.
