Why??

I am planning on adding a small dose of melofix to my 10 gallon tank when I add 4 new neon tetras as a precaution to try to keep everyone healthy.
I was just wondering why the bottle tells me to remove my activated carbon from my filter? Does something bad happen if I don't?

I believe the carbon removes the medication from the water.

Yes, the carbon will absorb the medication out of the water

Thank you! I figured as much but wasn't fully sure, just wanted to make sure nothing horrible would happen if done by accident.
