How do i get rid of these dang diatom algae?

This brown algae is taking over my tank. Anyone have any suggestions?

Everyone gets this in new tanks and it burns itself out over time. Everyone has to go through the new tank uglies.

Thanks did you see I lost my sailfin tang to ick? I used the copper safe I wonder if I shoulda went the hypo salinity route? It looks like my domino damsel has some on him now. Scared to try the cooper safe again. What do you think mr x

I think you may have ruined your rock with that coppersafe. I'm not sure, despite it's claims, that it's invert safe. I would never use ick meds in the display. Why are these fish getting stressed? ammonia? nitrites? nitrates?

Never had it until the sail fin and I didn't put the copper safe in the dt I used my qt ten gallon to treat the sail fin I only have a Kenya tree frag in the dt but I knew better then to put that stuff in the DT and my water tested fine. I didn't believe my test strip so I went to the lfs and had it tested

Oh. Ok. I would use the hypo treatment. Leave the toxic meds alone.
