I have this fluffy cotton ball like algae growing on my rocks. Its a cross btween red-orange and purple. Any ideas?

Need a pic for positive identification. If it is in sheets with air bubbles trapped underneath it is most likely cyano bacteria. It will break up readily(this will also spread it).

camera is not working right now. The algae is only on the live rock, not the substrate. Its not in sheets, its in balls, like a cotton ball, Its lighter than cyano.

cyano can get thick like a red carpet and feel soft and spongy. If you try, it should peel up pretty easy. Or, perhaps it's some type of sponge. Hard to say without a picture. Sorry your camera is broken.
