Weird snail looking thing attached to rock

I noticed I have an odd organism attached to my rock. I separated it because after having aquariums for many years have never seen one like it. Can any one tell me what this is? it is next to the dime for size reference and has no legs.

It's a Chiton. Google it, they aren't harmful, I have some in my tank.
