What's this climbing up my torch coral?

Hi all,

I've recently noticed this peculiar calcified/gravel covered tunnel heading towards my torch coral. I've removed it twice and it keeps returning. I suspect it's a worm causing it but I don't know which type. The torch coral becomes very unhappy when the tunnel (worm, whatever it is) connects with it (you can see a couple of shrivelled bits in the photo) so I'm removing it regularly and attempting to plug all holes around the plug the coral is on but the critter seems to be able to burrow through.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

- Helen
