I was going to do something like that too. If your tank has a rim where you can set plywood on it that would be super. It needs to jut over the aquarium though. What you could do is have to halves of the wood, one has an opening cut for the light to shine threw. Then attach the to halves with a hinge or two. Put a handle on the side with out the light hole. Done.
