This is the 10g tank i set up for my gma.

The tanins are really bad from the dw, so i added purigen to the tank last night.
I have diy c02 running, with a chop stick diffuser.
Plants are crypts, java ferns, and i forgot what the rest were called.

Thats a cute little set up! Is it dirted? If so what is the dirt capped with?

Did you soak the driftwood? If you soak it in a bucket for a couple days-week+, and change out the water every day, it'll release the tannins without gucking up your tank/ filter. It may still give your tank a faint tea color, but it won't be as bad :)

That's a nice looking set up. What are you planning on stocking with? The reason I ask, is because I actually think the tannin soaked look is awesome, and would make a sweet addition to a tannin loving fish. Eventually this would all clear out with water changes and stuff over time, but while it was happening I would be loving it (cue certain fast food jingle).

Could you explain the chopstick diffuser?

I rearranged the tan a bit. Tannins are slowly going away.
For the diffuser i widdled the end of a chop stick a little bit, and stick the end into the c02 line.
It lets out a tiny stream of bubbles.

That's pretty neat, right now I'm trying to diffuse through an airstone, but I'm not sure how that's going to work.

If that fails maybe I'll try the chopstick method.

I tried an airstone and it didnt work for me.

Look up chopstick c02 diffuser on google, and it will pop up.

Well I've given up on the airstone idea. While in theory it seemed doable it just didn't seem like it was working.

I'm setting up the chopstick method today.

I am using the Hagen elite mini filter and for only 10 dollars on amazon, it does an awesome job of diffusing co2. most bubbles dissolve before reaching the top

Ill definitely look into it. I got a call from my ma and the tank is crystal clear. Thank u purigen!

Purgen is the best product I've ever found to remove tannins. Plus you can regenerate it making it worth the extra money.

Yea i agree.

I regenerated it, and its still working great.
Ill update you guys next weekend. Ill prob grab some fish on friday.

I grabbed some guppies, and they are in the tank.

I have a question.

When recharging purigen, what will happen if u left the bleach from the recharging im the bowl with the purigen, and added the prime.
Im concened because i just left my gmas, and i left the bleach in the cup, insteading of dumping it.
Also i dont want to have my gma messing with it bcuz she is allergic to bleach.
When i did this method the last time( i just learned about pourint away the bleach water), eveything was fine, and the plants are thriving.
This time, there is $15 worth of guppies in the tank, and i dont want to risk anything.
Also she does not have any prime at her house.
Also the last time i did it this way, the purigen did not smell like chlorine.
Should i have her set the purigen in water, and place it in a new thing of water everyday, and dilute the bleach if it is in the purigen?

I told her to pour put the prime and bleach, and set it in a new thing of water twice a day.

I talked to my gma, and 2 of the guppies past away :(.
The 2 guppies past on the same day, but no losses since then. I think its been 3 or 4 days with no dead fish.
She is doing her daily or every other day 1 gallon wc, and she is matchig the water temperatures.
I did give her a cycles sponge from one of my filter's, but i guess that wasnt enough.
I want to get her a cpl more fish, but guppies at my lfs are expensive(allmost $4), so i was thinking some type of tetra or rasbora.
I was thinking getting 3 of the tetra, or rasbora, and adding another group of 3 in a couple weeks.
Do you guys think this would work?
Oh yeah, the plants are growing like crazy. She has to trim them weekly now!

I grabbed a guppy, and a female betta. Current stock is 3 guppies, and a betta.
Just finished trimming the plants, and a wc.
