baby swords

One of my swords has two babies growing off of a runner. I've left them on there about three months so they are decent size. I don't see any large roots because I think the fish have been eating them. Here is the question : do I break off the runner and plant the two swords OR do I just bury the runner in the substrate?

I would just bury the sword in the substrate until it gets bigger.

I also think that the mother plant will grow better without having the plantlets on it. True or false?
