When planting tall stargrass, do you plant each stem separately or can you plant in a bunch (6+ stems, group)? Also, since some driftwood comes attached to slate bottoms, how much cover of substrate is required to plant plants on top? Do the roots just grow out vs down? Thanks.

You can plant it all in one bunch if you want, but in lower light tanks especially it might cause some stem rot or leaf loss towards the bottom. You only need a small amount of substrate, maybe an inch or so, just to hold the plants in. With stem plants they don't really build any serious root structure anyhow, so the substrate depth has more to do with ease of planting.
