Planting plants... how much space do I need?

How much space do I need from the back or side walls? 1" all around?

And when planting bulb plants, is there a trick?

It depends on what kind of plants you are putting towards the back.

If its stem plants, no space is okay. If its something with big root system that will grow large like Amazon Sword, you might want to go a couple of inches.

Most bulbs (not all) should be buried in the substrate an inch or so. If they are fresh and healthy, you should see growth within a month. Faster if its very fresh, longer or never if its very old.
