Willow/java moss

How doe this stuff expland? Do the leaves just turn into part of the moss? Just curious.

If you drape it like a carpet over something, rather than keep it in a clump, you'll see that before too long, that carpet has expanded. It sends out runners, so to speak. Kind of like your hair grows.
