I've been lurking for a bit and decided to finally say hi! I bought a new 20 gallon tall last month (came with a Penguin 150) and started a fishless cycle. I added 4 ppm of pure ammonia July 18th, added more August 2 when it finally dropped to 2 ppm, did a 25% pwc August 10th (because the ammonia just wouldn't get any lower than 2 ppm), and added more ammonia August 13. After realizing my ammonia readings have not gotten below 2 ppm and I still have NO NITRITES, I was so frustrated today that I did a major pwc and got the ammonia down to .25 ppm. I'm at my wits end and am considering a fish-in cycle because of it. Any advice on why this isn't working? Should I just do the fish-in cycle? I'd really like to do a fishless but I'm so frustrated that it's taken 5 weeks!
