I did, by accident the other day. I had brought my "freshwater" Mag Float upstairs to use on the 10g. I brought it back down to clean the 55 and didn't look and put the piece that's usually on the outside in the tank. Actually, it almost worked better than the other way around! It removed the soft algae on the glass much faster. Of course it didn't do anything on the harder stuff. The pieces were also much easier to separate if I moved the float too quickly. Are they supposed to be reversible? Anyone else done this?

Nope, i have gotten water on the "outside" piece and ended up smearing SW all over the outside of the tank....

I think the only concern would be keeping that side clean and free of algae, not nasty and stinky.

Never thought about it though.

Never done it but think it would be useless on the hard algae in a SW aquarium.

It didn't do anything on the hard algae....but both of my tanks have more of the soft stuff that brushes off easily. I just thought it was funny when I noticed what I had done!
