I'm no aquascaper, but I can sort of grow plants, and have some control over my algae thanks to everybody's help here, I hope to add another pic in a few months -- maybe when I try to learn how to trim plants.

I'm open to suggestions if anybody has an eye for this and sees potential...thanks.
 
One thing that's difficult to make out in the picture, is that many of the stalk plants have roots reaching many inches out towards the gravel, and it's unslightly when it comes to the aesthetics of the tank.

What do you do with your above ground roots, is it harmful to remove them? Is it best to cut the stem and replant it everywhere a root grows?
