my angel fish have spawned, just noticed them yesterday, i have a pair of golds that had taken a break from breeding for about 4months. They laid about 50-75 eggs on the side of a powerhead, not sure that ill remove them per i have no room available right now. also i have a batch on honduran red points in the tank right now, the parents seem to do a pretty good job @ keeping tankmates at bay, i usually end up with 2-3 fry out of every batch if i dont remove them.

Congrats. I had a pair of angels a long long time ago that would spawn every two weeks, but the eggs never made it past a couple days. I ended up getting rid of the pair because they were tattering the fins of everyone else in the tank. They became far too aggresively defensive of their eggs :(

thanks guys.. ya their eggs rarely make it past wriggler stage.. honestly its rare they hatch without my intervention. the honduran red points are pretty much roaches. all they need is water.. like I said before I usually only end up with a few fry to grow out..

alright as expected the angelfish eggs are gone... stupid parents decided to go on a feeding frenzy rather that guard there eggs and my goodieds made quick work of the caviar instead of earthworm flake!...

the honduran redpoint fry seem to be doing pretty good. its probably day 5 free-swimming and looks like only 15 or so are gone... i guess the larger male has been doing a good job at keeping the other tankmates away.

yes, i have done that before i have a 2.5gal eclipse tank i move eggs to, bare bottom, 1 spongefilter that runs in my larger tanks when the eclipse isnt in use. i usually place the eggs next to an air stone and add methyl blue untill water is dark with it, i change 10-15% water every day so as it gets closer to them hatching its almost all gone, by the time they are free swimming the water is usually clear. i find that technique works great with basically all egglayers, however i find that the space needed to growout angelfish isnt something i can provide without cutting back on the space my other s/a, c/a cichlids

ok just a quick update, i lost track of a pair of honduran red points when the albino male and f1 female were breeding. seems they were hiding out in a cave of their own and managed to spawn and raise about 50 babies into free swimming stage.. ive been watching them over the past 2 days and each pair has claimed opposite sides of the tank. this morning when i turned off the moon lights i couldnt find pair #2. when i looked closer they were hiding in my floating plants and pair #1 had kidnapped all their babies and are raising them as their own! its

ok quick update, turns out there was another pair of hrp's breeding at the same time as pair #1 ( albino male, f1 female), the other pair is a standard light blue variety. pair #1 seems to think they make better parents and decided to kidnapp pair #2's fry! its a trip watching 2 obviously different batches following around pair #1. you can see a difference in size and color!. pair #1 seems to be more of a fleshtone color where pair #2 seems to be more of a metallic color. i think i'll be removing them and growing them out in a 30 gal i have... and as expected the angel eggs were gone a day or two before becoming wrigglers..

Well congrats on the HRP fry. :D Your angels are very pretty. They'd make some gorgeous fry. :) Maybe in the future you'll have more room to raise the fry.

Thats funny about the 1 pair kidnapping the others fry. :D You don't hear of that happening alot, or atleast I don't.

thanks kristin, i was tripped out when i saw that too. this is the first time a pair has been able to hold down a nice chunk of my 125 and take good care of their fry & them some:D like i said before, there are some obvious differences in the fry, some are silvery looking and the others are more of a fleshtone. they havent started getting any kind of shape or color yet. im looking forward to see what kind of ratio i have with pair #1 as far as color. i have an empty 55gal stand and 1 20 gal, that means if i get another one i can have a long stand with both tanks on it, or at least thats what ive been thinking about lately. im going to be moving soon so i think that would definately be do-able.

the largest ive been able to get the angelfish fry is about quarter size, they were all a nice gold color and red heads and some were the same color but with a stripe or 2 of black in them. unfortunaley a little someone threw baby powder into the tank and killed them all.
