My goldfish got poisoned by the silicone in the tank and I managed to keep it alive till now but it's gradually getting worse. It was already in a hospital tank but it's condition didn't get any better no matter what I did. This is his current condition.

His symptoms are popeye, pine coneing, turning black, swollen everywhere, and has become square-ish shaped.

Sorry the pictures are blurry.

Theres a very big lump on his chest too. I can't find the picture showing it but i'll find it later.

Poor baby. I have no idea how to detox a fish, but I would venture to say he may not make it. That looks painful. If he were mine I would get some clove oil and put him to sleep. I am sorry I am not more optimistic, and wish I had a better answer. Good luck.

Thank you. I kinda thought of that too but I don't think I could do it. I just don't wanna give up just yet. He's still breathing really well, I can't bring myself to quite do that. My Mom feels really bad for him too. So we're going to turn on some buddhist chantings for him and hope for the best. (Can fish even hear?)

Also I found that lump picture.

It's the area between his front fins.

I think the black is ammonia burns give him plenty of clean water with prime and if you can get some- stress guard. Keep doing those pwc and that will give him the best chance. Withhold food for the time being. Good luck, I hope he pulls through, but get some clove oil to have on hand just in case. If there are other fish in the tank he came from, do water changes on that too.

It's ultimately your decision if you want to try and treat him. He is in very rough shape with multiple issues. Is he still eating? I can make some suggestions depending on what meds you have access to.

Thank you. I will continue with the water changes and try to get some stress guard too.

Going to try for sure. Well he's upside down right now and can't turn himself over manually but he scoots along the bottom upside down. I wonder if a sling would make him feel a little better and perhaps allow him to come up for some food? He seems really bloated though. Right now I have Melafix, Pimafix and aquarium salt in the house. Anything else I could get a hold of would probably be in petsmart.

You can try a sling to try and keep him upright. If PS is what you have access to, get some API General Cure- enough to dose every other day for atleast 10-14 days (big wcs before redosing). I would prefer if he had Metromeds if he is eating but this would have to be ordered from the Goldfish Connection. Work with what you have! He would also benefit from Epsom salt baths 1-2x a day. You can find these in any drug, chain or grocery store in the first aid section for $1-2. No aq salt in his condition. If you need more help or instructions, just ask! I am really sorry all of this happened with your fish :(

Sounds good! I'll run around the house gathering the materials. I'll have my Mom go out for a run for the general cure in a bit since can't leave the house. No credit card so I can't order anything :/ Gotta have her run out for some epsom too then. Just wondering though, what is the difference between Aquarium salt and Epsom salt? Thank you. I feel so bad for my poor little fish. They're trying so hard to survive.

OH! GOOD NEWS! I flipped him over and he is staying upright all by himself! It's been over ten minutes now and he's still doing pretty good, he doesn't have to struggle that much to stay upright either but he is kinda just sitting there. Guess he needed a little boost. Looking closer at "his" tail I have a suspicion that he is actually a she.

I'll keep my fingers crossed!! Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. Aq salt is sodium chloride. Different chemicals and they serve different purposes. Epsom salt can help with bloating/swelling (edema), constipation and buoyancy issues. It has additional uses for certain internal parasite issues. Aq salt is a different creature and is not good idea with fish with your issues as it can put further strain on taxed regulation systems such as the kidneys and liver. Great for treating ich in goldies and helps dealing with mild infections.

Still upright :D Thank you! I put some aquarium salt with him last night and can now regret it but I'm glad I know that now :) My Mom finally came back with all the supplies and I'm planning on giving him an epsom bath before using the General Cure. What is the ratio of water to Epsom Salt? ALso, what did you mean by "Large" water changes? The back of the box says 25% should I be doing 50%?

Yes, and I believe the back of the box says to only dose 2 or 3x or something like that. I would aim for a 50% wc before redosing. If you can do more, that's great! For the Epsom salt bath, add 1 tsp/g into a bucket (or whatever your using) of conditioned, temp-matched water. Make sure its dissolved before adding your guy (or girl). Just keep an eye on him during the bath in case he starts to act strange. Bath time should be about 15-20mins then just pick him gently and return him to the tank. Good luck!

Okay, sounds good. I'll keep you updated on what's happening and hopefully I can keep it all positive.

I got him to eat yesterday and today I see some poop lying around there. He has to be hand fed as he can't seem to turn his body up or down. The food has to be put in front of him and he'll open his mouth to breathe and it comes in. Sometimes he blows it back out but once he realizes it's food he starts munching away. He likes to snuggle up beside the bubble bar. Aside from that there seems to be no visible improvements or signs of getting worse. So I guess we're at a stand still.

My other 3 fish are showing all sorts of symptoms now. One has hole in the head, another is pineconeing and the last one is turning a very dark splotchy black. These fish just seem to want me to play fish doctor forever. So I dosed them with General Cure too.

Never thought I would see a day where fish cause me more stress than my exams. Hmm haven't tested lately actually. I don't think the readings would be zero though because even my tap water has an ammonia reading of 0.5
