None of my fish would have laid eggs that would have looked like that.

It could have been some type freak egg laying. Snakes will do that from time to time. Have clutches of demented eggs.

It was lying in the substrate. A few fish nipped at it a few times but soon lost interest. I'm stumped. The tank is topless so I suppose something could have fallen in it. Just can't put my finger on what it could be.

I have a 4 year old son but he knows better than to try and throw stuff in the tank. Plus the tank top sits close to 6' up so it would be a little hard for him to get to.

I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn't him. He can't reach that high plus I have other tanks that he can reach and never messes with.
