Look into metro (metronidazole)
Lots of discuc breeders regulary worm their fish.
Lots of good info on discus sites.

Prazipro, active ingredient praziquantel. Really great stuff, I've never found it to be harmful to anything except for worms. Probably the most innocuous medication I have used.

Heard good things on metro. Have heard good things on PraziPro aswell, although I had mixed results using it, I don't blame the meds.

Metro is good as well! I've never had issues with prazipro aside from fish that IMO were probably too far gone to save regardless of what I used. And my favorite thing about it is that, at least in my experience, it's completely innocuous. Most of the time I can sorta tell by my fishes behavior that something is a little off while I'm medicating them- but I've never noticed that with prazipro, it's like they don't even notice it.

Unless I soak their food in it, that is. Then they REALLY notice it. They do not like the taste

That was my situation. Day late and a dollar short. Live and learn. Anything wild caught should be treated for parasites etc immediately IMO. You're basically guaranteed they have something lol

Yep! Just a few weeks ago we got a botia kubotai, he's been reluctantly eating some prazipro-soaked pellets and BOY does he look a lot fatter now!

Prazi is a good choice also as like sini said very hard to OD(like 50-100 times dose)!
New retail products from National Fish Pharmaceuticals
I use this prazi and mix it with vodka and dose right in water.
The vodka is because it doesn't dissolve well in water but does super in like tablespoon of vodka(many links on this also).

Vodka mixing is one option, although I never do it just because alcohol+fish tanks makes me nervous :hide:

You can also soak food with it; that's the best way to do it in my experience. It can just be tricky to get the fish to eat it.

Well I'm in undecided mode now lol being a puffer that only like snails thus far soaking food in prazipro isn't really an option.

Alcohol is safe.
Reefers dose vodka everyday to carbon dose.
Some 2x a day if they are doing it right.
Only talking about teaspoon for one dose.'
I have hit my rams 3x this way in last 2 months!

Oh I know it's safe! I'm just too familiar with what it can do in large doses (lab experience) which scares me away from using it. Plus I'm under 21

UPDATE I ordered a 4oz bottle of Prazipro. Should be here in 2 days(Thanks Amazon!)

Also double dosing iron has started.

Boiling driftwood to continue today hopefully.

I have a funny feeling you'll end up wanting more than 4oz  Just for the heck of it tomorrow I'm gonna try and post before and after pics of the kubotai we got and treated with prazipro. He was scary skinny before, now he's looking much better and we can't wait to get him some companions once the fish store gets them in.

Does your dwarf take frozen food?

No yet. Only snails at this point and even then it's not a ton. Thing that's part of the reason he's still so skinny.

Same with mine  Mine were even tankbred and tankraised. Luckily it's not that hard for me to find snails  The thing I hate with with snails is, as I have learned so much about recently, they are vectors for approximately 13 bajillion parasites and pathogens (only slight exaggeration). Makes me nervous!

Well hopefully this won't happen and thanks for making me worry more about him now lol.

Is making rash decisions at 1am about important things while on a budget a bad thing?
