Nice looking tank man. I would replace the whole euro brace for that tank if you could find one. A clamp would be a temporary fix but be unsightly. It would be a shame to tear down that tank.

Hey yeah get that crack before it is to late!
A clamp to pull the gap back together and a good brand epoxy will be way cheaper and easier then replacing the rim IMO!
Don't waste time .
First thing tomorrow IMO!
Jumped on the "emergency" sorry,
Tank looks great and dig the farlowella!

Thanks, What brand epoxy? Will plastic weld work?

The Farlowella has landed. She's acclimating right now. She's a nice specimen, about 4 inches so about another 2-3 inches of growth left in her. You can tell the genders apart by examining the rostrum (the pointy nose) carefully and males have small bristles that are absent in females. I may pick up a male in a few months and try my hand at spawning them. Also, can I get a brand name on a good epoxy to use as I really don't want to mess this up. Too much at stake!

I have never glued a frame myself but IMO JB epoxies are very good.
Make sure you get one specifically for plastic as they make several types.
Possibly super/crazy glue even?

She's awesome! I hope she works out, and you're able to get a male too.

Thanks, I really believe that farlowella cats and the closely related Sturisoma cats are a very underrated group of fish for the aquarium. they will not romp around like a pleco, they can be convinced to spawn fairly easily (raising the fry is the problem) and they offer unique looks. I hope they become more popular in the hobby. (y)

If you don't mind me asking, what did your LFS have her priced at?

At $13 but I got her for $11 and change because of a 15% off discount. I believe that they usually sell for a little bit more than that with large fish going for quite a bit more.

I think that is a very fair price for her. Online I have seen them double that.

Substrate:
1''-1 1/2'' Ocean Forest organic powerhouse mix with Red Mexican clay for iron source.

:thanks:

Is that a substrate you would recommend?

I'm going to be dirting my ten soon and can't decide which dirt to go with

Yeah, great substrate. be warned it will lower your PH by about a point. my tank is at about 6.5 after being 7.3 with just eco. Its great for my Amazonian fish so it doesn't bother me. By the way. The farlowella passed. The fish was looking and acting strange during drip acclimation. After I put her in she sat in the same spot breathing for about 3 hrs then she was dead by 10. I really can't pinpoint the cause. Had my water tested to get my store credit and they said the values were 0 0 5 so water was perfect. They said that 2 of the remaining 3 died the night after I got mine too so they said it was most likely something with the shipment. I was tempted to get the last one who was a large healthy male with a nice rounded stomach, not sunken at all like the others. he was quite active compared to the other 3 who died as well but I passed and decided to wait until the next shipment or wait for them to get some Sturisoma cats instead.

On the plant side I'm getting some rotala sp. colorata and limno Aromatica from Fresh on Wednesday so that will be what is going in the freshly opened gap in the tank.

Also, anyone have experience feeding co2 straight into a canister filter? Im thinking about trying it because the micro bubbles are driving me nuts!

I don't think I actually hit post for my last comment which I meant to be that you can almost always find Farlowella at Aqua Imports in Boulder if you are ever up there. If you are still interested in them. Sorry to hear she didn't make it. They are fascinating.

How's the Eheim 350 skimmer working for you?

sit in silence...

Its working awesome! Im loving the clarity of the surface. Really impressed. A quality piece of equipment. Das German engineering.

Yeah, sounds like they were ill. It happens. Ill no doubt look for another one in the future.

Im in boulder once every now and then and the last time I stopped there to look I was impressed by their selection. Ill have to check in with them again next time Im up there. Its about an hour drive from littleton. Ill defiantly not give up on farlowellas and will give them a try again if I can find some really healthy looking specimens. (y)

They usually have a pretty weighty price to go along with it, but then less stress and $ than shipping too and you can see a fish in a good tank and pick what you like. They order in too for you.

This is what Im waiting for at my LFS, its a sturisoma aureum. A hardier catfish than a farlowella but equally as intriguing:
