I'm looking at my options on led lights for my standard 10 gallon tank and stumbled across this led. I have noticed that they have a regular all white led model and a 5 color led model, my question is would either of these led's be considered mid light? Or am i better off buying the all white model?

I do not have a Chihiros, but I do have a 20" Finnex Planted Plus on a 10 gallon and it will grow anything including Dwarf Hair Grass. Maybe someone with a Chihiros will chime in.

Yes I am currently in between this and the 24/7 finnex model. But if this chihiros is pushing out the same par as a 24/7 then I'd rather buy the chihiros led.

Ask caliban07 I believe they are higher par than 24/7....be careful what you wish for.

I think caliban is dialing back his par.

Why dont you look at some 10g builds and see what light you want based on the results. Thats how I made my decision.

I might shoot him a msg. I know you can lower the brightness on the led so if I do get crazy algae I might lower it.

Thank you very much!! Looking forward to seeing that box and trying out co2 in my tank.

The chiros are good lights I linked cal a chart that had its par ratings. It will be more than enough if u ask me and it's cheaper than the 24/7. Most people go the 24/7 for the 24/7 mode but I don't like tank lights to be on
All the time. Best to give the fish a break like in the wild if u ask me.

Edit: deleted it from my inbox sorry :( but I think it was capable of 120 par at 18"?? From memory but don't hold me to that lol

I'm on the same boat. I wasn't really planning on using the 24/7 mode. I'll be around 12" so I'm guessing I might have to tone down the brightness if I want med light. Do they have a washed out effect on the plants and fish?

Check out the pictures of caliban07's tank. He runs 2 lights on level 2. Makes the tank look like its in HD lol

Edit:Caliban's AquaOpti 85L

Thanks for the link [emoji1303]. Yea I think I might end up buying it over the 24/7 now after seeing those pictures. I'm just hoping I get the right model. Just went on eBay and found so many sellers/models for this brand.

I think the DE is the new model of the A series? Cal's got the A series. Very good light for the price. I'd use one of I setup another tank. Once all my wife's goldfish die I might look into doing another planted tank. The setup's are just so dam expensive lol. I've spent far too much already lol

Oh yes know exactly what you mean. This hobby isn't cheap lol. Especially if you're into aquascaping like myself. I found a seller located in California that has the original A series so I'm going with that.

I rarely get too fired up here. But I gotta predict that the kind of par your looking at will make an algae farm. Couple that with an inadequate co2 system and I think your increasing your chance for failure. Not to mention the amount of nutrients and plant mass youll need to get balance.
12 in tank say light 2 in above that 14 minus say 2 in substrate so back at 12 in to substrate. Maybe less im probably at 11.

That's both the beauty and the curse of a 10g tank. I have to believe that at about 45 par you could grow about anything in a 10g. Not sure that you cant do it with less.

Read article Cal posted about par numbers on winning tanks from the barr report. I read that some time ago but was great to see it again.

Well I ended up buying the chihiros led. My plan is to tone down the light significantly and run in at around 3/4 for about 6-8 hours a day. I typically use root tabs only and not much liquid ferts besides excel.

I'm hoping that along with the co2 will keep me away from a algae mess. The real reason I did buy the led was because it's dimmable which I'm hoping will help lower the par value in my tank.

Won't he be able to get low par through dimming it tho? Even if he runs it on 1?

I do agree with the co2 comment. It's a must with a good lighting system. [emoji106]

Idk....maybe. I guess my thought is if ya gotta run it on one why get it?

True I guess. Then u always have the option to go more and more tho. The finnex could be better to be honest but the chihiros is hard to go past for the price tag and "par" for money lol

It's all personal preference I guess [emoji106]

Flc has nice smaller tanks (10g's etc) so
He is more knowledgable about them than me so I'd take his advice over mine ✌️

Hi guys, here is the PAR info. Cheers Bert. I bought two of these thinking that the wouldn't be enough. To think I was about 200+ PAR it's no wonder I had problems. I'm at about 40cm though so with two at level 2 I estimate I'm about 40-50 PAR but with two lights I get a better spread as LED do tend to be poor at spread.

I know that one on full power can grow Monte Carlo.

You won't get the colours of the finnex as they give out a whiter light. If I'd have known they did a colour one I'd have got one of each. They pack a punch so keep it low to start off then see how far you can get.

Read this link Champ was referring to and you see (if the info is genuine) that most ADA tanks at this convention were running approx 40-50 par at substrate and were growing the lot.

Good luck. [emoji846]

I think if you research 24/7 nano tanks youll see issues there too. Now how much is user error...idk. But I imagine the struggle it would be trying to find the sweet spot especially if problems are already starting.

One reason I built a 10g this time was knowing I could get away with out a serious light (money).

I guess its deja vue cause I think his thoughts are the same one I have. Even today I often wonder ...man I should of ran this light. But ill be honest not fighting algae is a large plus in my book.

Bert is right.....its nice to have the power. This will be interesting to see.
