I noticed since I lowered the salinity, there is a lot of brown algae growing on the glass and my rocks look darker then before. Why is this? I thought getting my salinity down to where it is suppose to be was better then leaving it too high.

Oh geez. I didn't know. Hopefully they will bounce back.

I lowered it to 1.025 in about 8 hours

also, 2 of my large snails died.

I recently bought a refractometer and noticed my salinity level was almost 1.030. So I lowered it to 1.025, and now all of my corals have been closed for the past week but my fish are doing great. Are my corals in shock or something?

I have a 29 gallon reef tank and 96w of T5 lights. I have (now this is a just a guess) about 200 baby snails ranging from the grain of salt to the size of sprinkle. I dont know where they came from but there are tons!! I also have a ton of scypha sponges, probably twice as many of them then...

They have been closed up for a few weeks. When I moved them to the bottom I noticed some of the polyps are gone. I'm not sure what's going on but I hope this doesn't happen to the rest of my polyps.

I moved the zoo rock from half way up to the bottom of the tank also. Maybe too much light for them. (96w T5)

I'm not sure. But I ran out of my nitrate kit and I'm not 100% sure where my nitrates are so I did a 35% water change to see if that helps.

I just want my zoo polyps to open again.

I didn't add them, I guess they came on the live rock and corals and just multiplied. But I'm thinking of getting a mandarin dragonet to keep them under control. Is that a good idea, and what are other fish that eat them?

Have a ton of copepods and amphipods. I have so many I can see them on everything, lights on or off. They are crawling all over my zoo polyps all day and night. The polyps have been closed for a while, but I know they sometimes close for a few days and then reopen. It has been over 3 weeks and...

I just don't understand how the rocks do the filtering a hang on filter with a filter pad would do.

Some people don't use any type of filter at all on a reef tank. Why is this, and is it recommended?
