    LED Lighting

I've been looking at this light. I've read a few comments that the new arms are tricky if the tank has a rim. I don't have a canopy on my tank (by design) and also wonder if you can see the light above the tank? I don't like the light blinding you (when looking at tank) and leaking light into...

    LED Lighting

I have two of the 48" Current USA Satellite + for freshwater. Bought them about four years ago. Let's see... both (transformer) plugs have gone out. They were replaced under warranty. I've replaced the remotes at least twice so I think I'm on my fifth remote (cheap third world product). They...

Fish flashing in new tank. water testing fine... ugh!

Update Thanks for the reply Ironworker. Been out of town for a while and catching up. I also thought it might be a parasite so I treated with tetra Ick guard 1/2 dose. added charcoal and a week later pulled the charcoal and treated a half treatment with api general cure. I treated 1/2 doses...

Fish flashing in new tank. water testing fine... ugh!

Thanks for responding Bichir Bro. I'll keep an eye out for ick and velvet. I did a 20% WC tonight. These are all new rocks and substrate so I'm sure it doesn't have the seasoned feel for these fish. Once I get to 50% water changes per week I'll be back on track.

Fish flashing in new tank. water testing fine... ugh!

Update I just figured out that water went into the tank on 1-7. That's a little more than three weeks ago. I generally do 50% water changes but on this new tank and just getting cycled, maybe I should just do a 20% and see if that helps with the flashing.

Fish flashing in new tank. water testing fine... ugh!

Hello, I just setup a 150 gal tall african cichlid tank. I used seeded media from my other filters from my 55 gal tank to seed the sump (WD-300CS). Also added rocks and a bottle of searchem/aquavitro SEED. Caribsea cichlid substrate with some pool filter sand (rinsed). The tank tested zero for...

    Male or Female?

Kribensis - Pelvicachromis pulcher Kribensis, Pelvicachromis pulcher, Krib, Purple Cichlid You can keep them in those tanks but the 55 would be better. Read up on them first. They get quite aggressive when breeding. I've kept them with tiger barbs without issue in community tanks. I generally...

    "help with potential fw sump?

I just redid my 150 gal tall and used a sump instead of canister filters. Actually still putting it all together. Ordered a tank and had a LFS drill the holes and add an overflow (two drains and one return). I have an island setup. It's cycling as I type this. I'm glad you're doing your...

    Yellow Lab Cichlid Sick

I looked at your videos several times and no question that lab looks irritated. I have a breeding colony of yellow labs myself and they're very hardy. I noticed some debris in your tank. How often are you doing water changes? I generally do 50% changes weekly (and vacuum) and that's worked out...

    Cichlid identification assistance

I live in Merritt Island and will be stocking my 150 with male peacocks and haps. Will be shopping at the same places you can shop. Lot's of places around here. You can find breeders on craigslist too. Several farms. Here's a couple of links to central florida facebook groups. Central Florida...

    Filter media questions

I was having that problem too. For me, I wasn't shaking the second nitrate bottle enough and it was giving me a 0 reading. Once I started banging it against the counter it started reading the nitrates.

What to breed that's not so common?

Thanks for the suggestions. I keep seeing this picture of a Lithobate that looks awesomely different. Those Red Top Lwanda's look nice too. I think I'll contact our local cichlid farm and ask what breeding colonies they have available.
