I have a 20 gal planted aquarium with 4 fish and I want to switch filters because the one I am using is causing problems. I have no idea how to go about doing so because I need to establish beneficial bacteria in my new filter without harming my fish or moving them. Help?

Approximately how long will it take to complete cycling and start adding fish?

So, what about water changes while cycling? Is it alright to have live plants in the aquarium while cycling? The whole cycling thing kind of confuses me; theres so many techniques.

I'm not sure, what would be the best way? And I do have a master test kit.
