    fluval 404 shooting air bubbles

I have a 404 and have the same problem. Aside from rocking it, tilt it to one side & hold it for a while. On the 404, there is a primer (little pump) next to the intake/outlet assembly. Pull it out and push it in several times. I creates a vacuum inside the pump. Not only is it used to prime the...

    dead tank

Its possible I guess. My only problem is that my reef is sitting about 6 feet away, but it wasn't affected.

    dead tank

I just use tap water (RO filter is on the list, but low). I use the same water in my reef, and I've seen no trouble with it. I test every 3-4 days in that tank. I saw a small spike when I moved everyone into the new tank, but nothing unexpected. Maybe the salt water gods were angered by something.

    dead tank

I just moved an established (up 1.5 yr) 75 into a 120. Moved filter, media, substrate (less than 1" thick), water. Added more substrate. About a month later, I went down one morning to find everything dead. No signs of stress, disease or trama. They have been eating. There was a slippery dick...

    leather coral disaster

While looking at my reef tank, I noticed my leather coral had fallen off (again) and into a carpet anenome. Don't know how long it had been there, but looks like long enough for it to sting and almost kill the leather coral. After an emergency water change, I threw out the dead base of the...

Halicoeres bivittatus (Slippery Dick Wrasse) question

Just put a 4" SD Wrasse in my 120. I haven't found much info on these, other than like most wrasses they like to burrow. How well will they do with other wrasses, especially a Red Coris Wrasse about the same size? Right now, its him & a lion fish in the tank. Also, who came up with the name? My...

    need expernal pump advice

I have an older Lifeguard Quiet One that has been a good pump over the years, but is starting to get noisy & should probably be replaced. A LFS has a Quiet One for about $125. I'm seriously considering getting it, given how reliable the last 2 I've had have been. I'm also open to suggestion...

    120 in wall

right now, all is run from a power strip. There is an outlet right by the wall I put in that will be relocated in the future when we start wiring the rest of the basement.

    120 in wall

more photos One design change was the addition of a door at the top for front access. I didn't want to put one in, but it became clear it was needed. I will also build a small platform in front for our little girl. She likes watching the fish, but she's too short to see it. The tank is approx...

    120 in wall

Inspired by Boxster's 180 in wall construction (looks great by the way), here are some photos of the 120 we just roughed in in our basement. This is a fish only salt tank (moved our 75 into bigger quarters.) The stand is primarily built from doubled up 2x4's with a treated 2x4 base anchored to...

    how many bio balls?

I'm setting up a 120 fish only tank. I'm building a wet dry (have an extra tank, overflow & lots of plexiglass. Looking on the high side, figuring a heavy load, how much room should allow for bioballs? I don't have any formulas, but I'm guessing around 4-5 gallons (looking at other sumps).

    new tank from scratch

I will soon be starting a new fish-only from the ground up. All new equipment, etc. I'm wanting some ideas on biological filtration. I've used wet/dry filters & fluidized bed (sand) filters in the past, with better luck on the sand filters. Yeah, I know, lots of people hate them and I've heard...

    ulcerated angel

We are in the process of remodeling the basement, included is a 125. We're probably 2 months away from setting it up. It will be a straight move in from the 75. THe filtration set up I'm using is designed for a 150 (was used on a 125 for quite a while.) Normaly, I feed 2x week flake or...

    filtration

Over the next few months, we are going to be setting up a new tank, 125-150 gal community. Its been several years since I've really been in the hobby & I know things change. I am looking for advice on a good biological filter. I've never been a big fan of wet/dry filters. My current community...
