Losing Rasboras, others possibly sick as well.

There's carbon in my filter and I use Prime as my water conditioner. We've lost two more Rasboras, unfortunately, but we've pretty much narrowed it down to a parasite that's just attacking the Rasboras or columnaris and the other fish just aren't symptomatic yet. We're treating for both.

Losing Rasboras, others possibly sick as well.

1~I have a 20g tall with 5 Harlequin Rasboras, a bristlenose pleco, and a honey gourami. Formerly, there were eight rasboras. Two or three weeks ago, I moved tanks from a 10g to the 20 tall. At that time, I introduced three new rasboras and the gourami to the existing five rasboras and the...

    Stocking questions!

The biggest issue I see there is the danios. They really need more lateral swimming space than a 10g can offer them. I don't know enough about rams to really make suggestions on the 45.

    Hello, fish people.

Have you looked into dwarf/honey gouramis? They usually need to be in groups of three (a male and two females), but they are generally a little smaller and less aggressive than bettas. I find them to be beautiful top dwellers.

    Help me help my fish

Possibly, but something else you could do is put that gravel (and its snails, if you don't want them) in some kind of tight mesh. I've heard nylon pantyhose work well.

    Stocking questions!

I would really suggest you get your (glo) zebra danio a school. He'll be much happier, even if the rest of the school is unmodified zebras, the school will give him an outlet for his energy an help him to feel more secure in the tank. I've read a lot about zebras getting restless and nippy alone...

    Help me help my fish

OP, some starter bacterias work, others contain nitrifying bacteria that cannot survive in an aquarium. Dr Tim's One and Only is probably the most widely recommended product that I've seen, however I had some luck in a tank recently with a bottle of Tetra's SafeStart. As has been said above...

    Newbie Here

Welcome! I can't wait to see and hear all about your cichlids! I recently had the pleasure of spending a minute outside of a local chain store's oscar tank, and those fish had so much personality I just wanted to bring them all home right then and there!

    Hi everyone!

Welcome! I also have more fish than friends, and I like it that way!

    Hello, fish people.

I've read that guppies can be sensitive to water quality changes. Sounds to me like yours were sick when you got them, however. Real plants are a goal of mine as well. I believe I've read that java fern and some mosses do quite well in low tech, low light setups. You'll have to let us know how...

    Goldfish missing a few scales?

Thanks for the reply. This helps me put my mind at ease. It's been more than 15 years since my last goldfish so I have no idea what I'm dealing with!

    Goldfish missing a few scales?

I have a juvenile common (feeder) goldfish (6 or so months old, got him from a fair in August) who seems to be missing a few scales in a vertical line just below the leading edge of his dorsal fin. (S)He's currently living in a 10 gallon tank (I know this is insufficient, he'll be moving to a...

    GloFish??

As has been stated, glo fish are genetically modified danios and tetras that are used for both scientific and commercial purposes. They're essentially identical to their unmodified counterparts and as such the danios will need no less than two feet of lateral space to swim in, giving you the 20...

    Betta mates?

It really depends on the betta. If he's relatively mellow, a group of small, less active schoolers may work. A recommendation that I have seen a lot of is harlequin rasboras, as well as some of the more robust tetra species. Another idea may be some shrimp as mentioned above, however bettas have...
