I put in some live plants into my 20g tank that has 6 fish. When I do a water change every other day, 15%, tiny little pieces of one plant swirl all over the bowl, then settle.
1) My nitrites are now 0.25 and ammonia 0.50. Is that acceptable?
2) Could the new plants with pieces scattering...

Pretty new stuff, Master Test Kit, 10/2024.
Added some bacteria after testing yesterday to both tanks. Today the Ammonia read 0.25 for both.
Could it be that the older tank was already cycled and thus no Ammonia? and the newer tank hadn't had enough time to get any ammonia?
I have 2 tanks; First is very close to 4 weeks old. The 2nd is five days old.
Both when tested for ammonia, the test tube is completely clear, not even the least bit of yellow.
Anyone know what this means? Both tanks have a few fish.
On my test color scale, it shows yellow as 0 ppm...
Searched but did not find any thing on this here on forum...
Thinking about starting a new tank, I've read by googling that some think it's okay to shorten the cycle, some think not, by adding bottled bacteria like Dr. Tim's One and Only or Tetra SafeStart.
What say you guys, those that...
I finally googled something that may explain it. They SMELL their own kind. They can supposedly even smell their own kind for their sex, m or f. Probably Mollies can smell other different kinds of Mollies. I have a albino balloon that often hangs around my Cookies and Cream Molly.
