Um...is it okay for cats to drink from the tank?

Okay, so i get up this morning, and go out to turn on my tank light. Mr. McSqueekers had flipped the lid off the hob filter, and was merrily lapping up the fish-flavored water. I didn't yell at him...he wasn't messing anything up with it, or trying to 'fish', but just drinking. Anyway, is this...

Baby-sitting a betta, lots of questions

I've moved him out of the vase into a LARGE jar, just so he has more room to swim. He looks visually okay, his fins are a bit ragged from my grandmother's handling (she just reaches in and catches him, no net), but there isn't any apparent illness. Megalofyia, no, the vase (and now jar) have...

    feeding your "sharks"

My red-tailed eats the flakes off the bottom of the tank, and any slimey stuff inside (he's had to really scavenge...he has competition now!). He goes beserk over brine shrimp, and that's all I've tried to feed them. I follow the policy: Dog food is for dogs Fish food is for fish PPl food is...

Baby-sitting a betta, lots of questions

Greetings yet again. Okay, I've had bettas before, but always in a community aquarium, with filters and gravel and plants and lights and heaters. Anyway, my grandmother purchased a betta, and has him in a glass vase (not the kind with the plants on the top, just a vase). She has the water...

    bubbles created by fry...please advise....

Ah, I see...that makes quite a bit of sense. Should I add the other airstone to the chamber? I don't want to add them to the community tank just yet, they are bigger, but still snack-size for the shark. The isolation chamber measures about 5x3", with 3 platy fry in it.

What Brand of Dechlorinater do you use?

I use Jungle Start Right...I started using it when we had turtles, and when we got fish, I just never left it. I know that StartRight comes in liquid, granuals and now fizzing tablets.

How do you guys stand to touch those blood worms? *shudders* PCooper, I wish I could give you some advice, but I've never heard of lemon tetras. But I'm going to agree with TankGirl here.

    bubbles created by fry...please advise....

Okay, I swear, I'm not trying to spam, but I would like an answer to this phenomenon, and can't find any sources for references. My platy fry are in a plastic floating isolation chamber, and I've noticed that they are swimming to the surface and blowing bubbles...it looks almost like a male...

Snails getting out of hand - help !

Uh....snails eh? My mom loves snails...the way that we erridacate the tank is by squishing them against the side of the glass when they come up to the surface. Usually another fish will eat the flesh, and just leave the shell. That's all I can suggest. Good luck!

    Painted glass fish???

Tamtam, I knew something was wrong with those fish when my lfs said that they will NEVER carry those fish, as it beyond cruel to them. You can find the glassfish (not painted), and they look the same except that they don't have the streak of color down the back. Trust me, I saw the same...

    fry survival in community tank

You might want to try to purchase a 'floating breeder'...and scoop up the fry and put them in there. Then, they can be safe from anyone that wants to eat them, and you can make sure that they are fed. Good luck, and congradulations!
