    Heater Issues

My house is cold! So i can never expect a heater to function true but i have found on my 45 gal that by putting an insulateing layer on the three non veiwing sides i get truer temps. Perhaps you could try the same, at least until the ich passes

all 29 are females? please help...

The ganopodium in live bearing fish may not develope until they are 3 mnths or older. Alot of fish have the ability to shift genders as adults, all clownfish are male until one decides to be dominate and becomes female. Live bearers may be able to do the same thing when neccesary. Live bearers...

    'Sheltering' our Fish

I dont beleive tanks are all that sterile. I house the bulk of my fish in container ponds through the summer, I know this is still different from a wild pond but the fish are still exposed to air born parhogens, contaminants, temperature fluctuations, leaf litter, disease carrying insects, etc...

    My Babies are growing up!!!!

Whats your secret! My mollies seem to be taking forever to grow, though the paradise fry in smaller tank almost double overnight.

    Please help me ASAP

Also what is the actual temp of the tank? I lost heat at my house last year fir two days and my water felt like ice but the thermometer registered 72. The surface of our skin is 85 so anything less then that can feel cooler then it really is.

    Please help me ASAP

Also remember alot of fish actually live in cooler temps then we keep them at. Alot of central american fish could probably survive 60 degrees for a few days, same for some gourami. I have BN plecos, paradise fish, mongrel guppies all at 68 and they growing fine. Almost all barbs should be able...

    Filling out schools.

Didnt realize the small cories were that different in behavior. Good to know. As far as not letting mts get over ten, i meant ten visible snails because there will be at least twenty you cant see and a large quantity of snails will then start to effect water quality. They are awesome its just...

I wouldnt stir the sand unless you see a dead pocket then i would syphon it out, not stir. Stiriing may force material into the sand bed which can make a dead spot, if it doesnt get underneath, your filter and syphoning of the surface will get all debri. MTS are usually hitchhikers so the LFS...

    Fertilizer spikes in planted tanks??????

Im curious about this too, i know they can burn the roots of terrestail plants but people seem to just jab them in. Osmocote seems like it would be more stable and safer. Seems like youll also end up with a salinity issue almost all ground plant foods have salts in them.

I just did the playsand and found it took a while to rinse, but trail and error taught me if you pour it into a cleaning bucket from at least a foot hight(30 centimeters) the wind will carry alot of the small stuff away, and cleaning takes less time. I think it led to a "brown" algae outbreak at...

Seems fine. 6 to 10 of each, the greater amount meaning larger water changes, i personally do weekly 50% changes on anything under 20 gal.

My experience with celestials is they are hoverers, males picking out good spots in the tank and defending it against rivals. In tight spaces weak males can be worried to death. 75 degrees is warm for them, more of a temperate fish then true tropical. I'd also imagin a good sized betta could...

    Starting a hex tank

I would say butterfly barbs, tiny fish that tend to hover, get a trio 1male to 2 female. No heater with this guys also. They breed easily enough but in very small quantities. They're like 10 bucks a peice around here but trade in value of fry should make up for it. Or perhaps those cloneing cray...
