Where are you getting for fish from? I personally did fish-in cycling and had two deaths, but it was because they jumped out of the tank, not the water quality.
Maybe get some hardy low light plants in there? Plants love the cycling process and i use plants and a couple fish to cycle my tanks.

I got them from my buddy who owns amazing animals in Danielson CT. He gets them from elrich, who apparently has a huge discus pond with trees growing out of it in his basement. I got the blue diamond for $15 and the scribble for $25 and they are both doing quite well!

Grabbed a shot of my discus last night (which has been tough to do). I have a blue diamond and a red scribble and will be adding more soon. They are thriving and doing well! So happy with these fish and tbe best part, I got the diamond for $15 and the scribble for $25. It pays to know a LFS...
I hear ya, but plants are great for cycling tanks. I cycled my old 55g with plants. Never had an issue.
Just a thought. Keep on it and itll cycle.
