Dropsy? Fish looks like exploded inside out.

I agree 100%. The thing that confirms it for me is the fact that it lived with it so long, and it continued to grow, and eventually did actually rupture (split) the skin. I'd almost guarantee it was a tumor. It has all the characteristics.

Columbian catfish with a distended belly

I just wanted to post back and let everyone know she's doing great! After a couple of meals of peas (about 8 peas in total) her belly is back to normal! :-D :-D I'm normally not one to freak out too much, but after so many days of her belly looking like that I had to seek some advice.

Columbian catfish with a distended belly

My avatar is one, but it's a good 2 years old or so. Unfortunately she spends basically all her time swimming in the currents which makes it hard to catch any good pics with my sub-standard camera. lol.

Columbian catfish with a distended belly

I was going to try epsom. Her belly appears to have gone down a *little*. I'll try more pees and possibly an epsom batch. Thanks for the responses!

Columbian catfish with a distended belly

Hey everyone, It's been a really long time since I've posted on here. I have a sick fish that I need some advice on though. She's a 4 year old columbian catfish / black fin shark / silver fin shark (lots of names. lol). She's about 7" long and is in a 55 gallon all by herself. She has had...

    Emprior (Bio-Wheel) vs. AquaClear

I am not saying much other than what has been said above, but I recommend the AC. I had an Emperor 170 (now called 200) die on me after only a couple years of normal use. It was a good filter, but the flow reduced to just a trickle. That was with regular cleanings and everything, I take very...

    Long fish poop?

I'm only speaking from experience here, but it is very common in golds and plecos. They are very dirty fish! I suppose some might recommend feeding them a pea (to help with constipation) but my fish have always been healthy, but I have always had that occur with golds and plecos. The only...

    Water treatment ?

I don't know about all that, or what kind of fish you are trying to raise, but my experience has always been to just leave it be. While the high nitrates is obviously not good due to water changes, I personally would leave the hardness and ph as it is in the nearby city water. In general even...

    Strange Convict???

Hi jdogg, It will never result in that 100% of the time due to how genes work, although your chances are greatened. If the pink is the recessive gene (1 in 4 chance of them having it) then the chances of the pink male and female producing pink babies is no more so than breeding a normal male and...

    Air pump questions

If you can't find a check valve you like, but are worried to not have one, then a quick fix would be to make sure your pump is higher than your tank. If you have any way of doing that, then a check valve wouldn't be necesarry since gravity would prevent it from siphoning. As far as not hearing...
