Quick update.. Changed over to kiln dried paving sand its so much softer and much easier to vac and cost £2.50.
Unfortunately because of my haste to change the sand I messed up the bacteria of my tank, and caused my tank to cycle, high ammonia readings.
The...
We now have Costco but you have to be a member or something and I don't think they are as big as the stores in the US. Only a small island !!
Just back from the aquatic centre and they don't think the sand is the problem, they think its a bacteria infection and somehow talked me into buying...
Goodmorning!
Yeh I was definitely having tank issues before with hair algae which choked the plants, it got attached to 95% of my plants so i binned them and got some interpet anti hair algae stuff..new plants with some root tabs and seachem excel and flourish, and hoping ill have better...
Just looked up that plant you mention and I have one stem of that left in my tank. Bought a large bunch about 6 months ago but despite using a strip of plant weight it kept coming loose. Has no roots so I don't know how to keep it grounded. One piece I have is just poking in a hole in the...
Thanks for the reply.
My nitrates seem impossible to get below 20-30ppm. The tap is the same and Prime water conditioner does state it detoxifies nitrate (if that can be believed). All other fish seem fine and I'm reluctant to add more chemicals to the tank. Any ideas how to get this lower...
Since I got my julli corys I noticed after 4 weeks their barbels had gone. Now 1 seems to be missing its mouth!! Looks terrible although he's still eating and swimming about just fine. No red blotches or signs of any white fungus.
The 4 corys were babies and I hoped that maybe barbels would...
Bought some very young Julli Cory's 6 weeks ago, photo attached, they are no bigger than an average sized assassin snail. Doing fairly well and getting bigger since living in my 120l lido black sand and planted aquarium.
I changed my gravel to sand with the sole purpose of getting some bottom...
I managed to rescue as many snails as I could find and popped them in a Tupperware with a lid made from a fishnet stocking!! Just the job!
Seems a few were hiding but they seem to be surviving and today is the last day of the meds.
Thanks for the advice! :)
Using esha 2000 & exit to treat white spot on a molly and a harlequin rasbora..all fish dont seem bothered by the meds..julli corys are whizzing around more than ever.. But my assassin snails are trying to escape! Have I just committed them to death?! I don't have a QT so I can't move them...

Gosh this confusing!
I started adding salt after unexplained deaths in my guppies and finding out other meds do more harm than good..water etc was all good, so I tried the salt then and guppies are thriving and doing more reproduction than I'd like! Another story..
However I've had a couple of...
Hi,
In order to keep my fish healthy I add some aquarium salt to the tank water. Fish are certainly good for it but my plants are dying.
Are there any plants that like the salt water?
Thanks :)
Wow 10 in a year! I'll have to start buying new plants fully stocked with annoying snails for them to munch on! They have done a good job in my tank currently I'm now worried the baby will have to be a vegetarian! :)
