My tank is almost 6 weeks old and I've had diatoms for just over 4 weeks and I'm wondering how long they'll last for as they're pretty ugly to look at. I used live rock from another tank of mine so it cycled pretty much straight away and my ammonia and nitrite are at 0 and my nitrate is around...

The cleaner shrimp seems to be doing fantastic and my ammonia and nitrite are both 0 and I have low nitrates. I've kept ghost feeding as I can't get a fish until next week and there seems to be no ammonia whatsoever.

A skimmer seems like a good call. I'll see how it goes skimmer less but if it looks like I'd benefit from one I'll definitely get one ��
