Water changes won't harm the beneficial bacteria too much. They mostly live in filters and substrate. As for the nitrites-- keep doing the water changes. I'm not sure why it isn't coming down after so many unless you stirred up substrate or another fish has died. Or it could just be your tank...

I have ordered most of my rock from Reef Cleaners. That place has some really good rock, as well as other things like macro algae's, inverts, etc. I always recommend them because the rock is fairly cheap, ships pretty quick and only needs the dust from shipping rinsed off.

That's true. since getting into this hobby, I have seen a lot of things that were clearly not researched. Such as putting large animals in really small tanks. That seems popular.
