    Corydoras species???

Yes! I think this is it! I was stuck on julii or agassizi. Cheers!

Nitrite Spike, Not going down after multiple water changes.

Nutrients store in the substrate and stay there for the most part. But ya, stirring will release it. You could try vacuuming the gravel really well too! And you can find pithos anywhere-- grocery stores might be the cheapest place. I worry a LFS wouldn't carry them. Definitely ask advice on...

    Opinions on overstocking

I might be wrong in my approach, but I think overstocked is ok IF you have a heavy planted tank, good clean up crew, good filtration, and the expertise to know your tank well. I have kept 10 gallon tanks in the past, heavily planted and filtered, with about 20 guppies (+ dozens of babies that I...

Nitrite Spike, Not going down after multiple water changes.

Water changes won't harm the beneficial bacteria too much. They mostly live in filters and substrate. As for the nitrites-- keep doing the water changes. I'm not sure why it isn't coming down after so many unless you stirred up substrate or another fish has died. Or it could just be your tank...

    Corydoras species???

Hey all! I bought these corydoras from a LFS, but they weren't labeled other than "corydoras". What species are these fish?

Too much waterflow for green spotted puffer?

He is actually out of his cave this morning, still hunkered down to one corner under one of the powerheads. Ill give him a couple more days settle in. Thank you!!:thumb:

Too much waterflow for green spotted puffer?

I should also add that he went from maybe 500 gph total with all of the filters running.

Dead rock for a birthday present!!!!

I have ordered most of my rock from Reef Cleaners. That place has some really good rock, as well as other things like macro algae's, inverts, etc. I always recommend them because the rock is fairly cheap, ships pretty quick and only needs the dust from shipping rinsed off.

Too much waterflow for green spotted puffer?

I have a green spotted puffer in a 55 gallon FOWLR with a pair of occi clowns and a 4-striped damsel. I just got new powerheads today, maxi jet 1200 and maxi jet 600. I have the 1200 toned down to 295 gph and the 600 is at 750 gph. all of my fish are fine, except my puffer. The clowns and the...

    Research essay topic

I started the hobby a couple months ago, so I know quite a bit, but not as much as I would like to, so a personal goal for this essay is to expand my knowledge. I think maintenance vs misconceptions would be good. I haven't looked too deeply into maintenance. Thank you!

    Research essay topic

    FW to SW???

That's true. since getting into this hobby, I have seen a lot of things that were clearly not researched. Such as putting large animals in really small tanks. That seems popular.

    FW to SW???

I was afraid of that... And the challenge of it is what I want. I do already have a little experience with saltwater though, I have a 55 gallon FOWLR, I just wanted to do a small reef tank as well. And I am still in the beginning stages and haven't really found any lights. Do you have any...

Oh no. Absolutely not. Hahaha, I was just being sarcastic. Maybe I have clarified. :)

    FW to SW???

I have a small 5.5 gallon aquarium that is fully cycled and ready for a really small reef! The only issue is that it is freshwater, and corals seem to only like salt. My question is, can I remove all the decor and fish and very slowly convert gravel to sand or will I have to recycle the tank...

    GSP tank mates

I have a 55 gallon full salt aquarium with a gsp in it. What other fish can go with him? I was thinking a zebra lionfish and a snowflake eel, but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks!

Thinking of starting a saltwater tank

I have had a freshwater tank now for a little over a month and have decided to switch to saltwater. I have a 55 gallon tank with a fluval 304 canister filter and a HOB filter. What do I need to start a saltwater tank, and what does it take to maintain. I know next to nothing about saltwater...

    blank slate

I have to agree with manic fury, cycling a tank is extremely important. I didn't know about it and I payed for it! Anyways, you happened to pick a good selection. All of these species can live together. Except for an eel like fish, I don't know of any. I'm assuming you are referring to a male...

    Is my tank cycled?

The tank is at 74* which is good for the goldfish and only a little too cool for the danios. Tropical temps range from 74 to 82, and goldfish do best In 74*. Plus, I plan on returning the goldfish. But does that mean my tank is not cycled because of the small readings of ammonia? I've been...

    Is my tank cycled?

I bought a 55 gallon tank a couple weeks ago and had to completely start new. I replaced gravel and decor. I rinsed out all the filter media under tap water. A week ago, I filled it with water and added bacteria supplement. I also added 9 goldfish and 2 danios (I will be replacing goldfish and...

    Filter position for cichlid tank

I've heard that cichlids need awesome filtration. I have a fluval 304 canister and a HOB filter for a 55 gallon tank. My question is where to position the intake and outtake of the canister and where to put the HOB for best circulation/filtration.

    Cichlids

Alright, I kind of figured considering Africans were so violent. And that's very good to hear about the peacocks as i really want some!! Thanks!

    Cichlids

I am thinking about an African cichlid tank. What kind of other fish can go with African cichlids? Also, I'm thinking about getting peacock cichlids. Do they *need* sand? I currently have dime sized rocks as substrate and don't want to change.
