The fish didn't stay at the top for long, and the nozzle of the filter is pointing up a bit anyway so it's constantly breaking the surface of the water. So what would I need to quarantine, just another smaller tank? I guess the aquarium is still settling, it's only 2 months old, not sure if...

Ok, situation over, she's given up the fight and died. :( Really sudden, they were all very active this morning.

She's trying to swim, occasionally she'll give it a go and get off the gravel, but stops a second later. Her mouth is opening and closing repeatedly... WAY more than the other 9.

120L aquarium, no real plants (but several plastic ones) and I can't see any marks or other issues on her. Just doesn't seem able to swim enough to get herself off the bottom of the tank.

The filter's back on - the other 9 fish had all gone to the top of the tank so I was worried about oxygen... the poorly fish is now lying on the gravel in an area where the current appears to pass by, still breathing but clearly not happy.

I've had 5 black phantom tetras in my tank for 4 or 5 weeks. Today I added some rosy tetras, and all seemed fine. This evening I couldn't find one of the phantoms, and eventually found it insode on the hollow ornaments, strugling to stay off the bottom of the tank. She's still alove and her...

Patience the order of the day then, thanks for confirming this :) And once this is all sorted the next fish input will be 5 Neon Tetras, but I'll wait another few weeks before any more.

Ok, I've done some water changes (about 25% every 3 days or so) and the water is now crystal clear, looks fantastic. But my ammonia isn't going away. It started as 1ppm before I started the water changes, and after 4 changes it's still just over 0.5ppm. Do I just need to keep doing the...

Thanks for all your advice, it'd be interesting to know what others thought of that idea - it sounds like a very handy and straight forward way to clear the tank up. :)

It looks like this: As you can see there's a gap half way down that something else could go in... the carbon sponge is the black one near the top.

Yeah there's a black carbon filter sponge. Should it really need replacing after 2 weeks..? That's going to get expensive...

Mine's just the one that comes with the Juwel Rio 125 - it's got 2 basket things that slide out with various filter sponges and a cage with some white balls of... something. Can't see where I'd add in some carbon TBH but I could well be wrong.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean? Is that something I put in with the filter media somewhere?

So to sum up, I'm just waiting for the cloudiness to (hopefully) clear?
