I did try feeding him peas before, which he ate - but I don't think it was constipation. I've been doing the water changes recommended after each treatment, and there's always fish poop being vacuumed up from the gravel. He still has the same healthy appetite as usual.
Yeah...the ick...
I have had a betta for about a year and a half in a 5 gallon filtered tank. He has always been very healthy and active. A few weeks a go, he had little white things on his body, which I guessed was ick, so I treated it with "super ick cure" with nitrofurazone. The ick quickly cleared up. But...
Hey, that's interesting...I was thinking of putting a trio of cories (so cute!) in my 5 gallon with my betta, but was worried it would overload the tank. But it would be okay? What would you recommend for water changes with that setup?
I'm by no means an expert, as I just asked this same question for my betta who is in a 5 gallon:-) You can check out the reply I got in the same general discussion forum - I believe the recommendations were otocinclus, shrimp, or african dwarf frog. But I personally would think in 1 gallon you...
Oh! I wish I had read this before ordering the second hood from Amazon.com. Oh well, I'll know for next time - I'm returning the one to Petsmart, and am very happy with the other. It's only got an 8 watt fluorescent light, but it looks remarkably like natural daylight fliltering into the...
Thanks for the advice:-) I hadn't thought about the food blowing up once it's wet - my betta gobbles it up way too fast! For the same reason, there's no uneaten food floating to the bottom for anyone else to eat - so if I get something I'll have to get some sinking pellets or something. I...
I love my betta! I set up a 5 gallon for him with some silk plants, and he frolics all day. The funny thing is that despite all the space in the tank, his favorite thing to do is to travel in circles along the back panel, between the little gaps left by the plants, filter, and thermometer...
Thanks for the tip...I just called Petsmart customer service, and the lady who answered happened to have a friend who was an electrician (what luck!) and she said I probably wouldn't have much luck using a fluorescent bulb in there without damaging something electrically...I think I'm probably...
Hi everyone:-) I'm hoping someone can help answer a simple question. first, my set up - I've got a five gallon tank all for my little betta:-) It's 16" across, and I'm having a tough time finding a hood for that size. I've found one at petsmart.com, but it has incandescent lighting. Now, I...
thanks:)
Thank you all SO much for your advice!
About the light: I suspected it was too low. I went to two different pet stores, and the only output I could find for an 18" bulb was 15 watts. They also sold 24" bulbs that were 20 watts. Where can I go to get a more powerful light? Should...
hello,
I have a 10 gallon freshwater, planted tank with 5 zebra danios and one african dwarf frog.
I've been having huge problems with algae for 6 months or so. I can't tell if it's red or brown - kind of rusty colored. I feed sparingly, I gravel vaccuum and do partial water changes every...
Fruitbat, PK and QT
I got the danio about 4 or 5 months ago. He doesn't glow....but the phrase "pinkish cast" is what he seems to have. He may have had this all along, I odn't know - they are so fast, you can't really observe them that well, I took him out recently and had him in a jar...
Kwenbee,
I'm a beginner too, but I thought I might be able to offer my opinons on the danios and the betta and the 1 gallon tank.
Though I had read there was a risk that danios might nip a betta's fins to shreds, or eat up all his food before he could get to it, I'd also read that sometimes...
Just did a large water change. His behavior is still the same - super active. It's not veins, it's more like his stripes are fainter and the gold stripes have a pinkish hue. The only difference I can think of is that after the third danio died, it's now just him getting chased around all day...
