    Need help cycling

Your new cycle is looking good so far. I had trouble when aiming for a 4ppm level of ammonia but finally completed my cycle using ammonia levels of 2ppm. Could you tell us what brand of ammonia you are using ?

    36G startup - Fishless Cycling

May 25 Ammonia 0 (from 2.0 on May 23) nitrIte 0 nitrAte 30 to 40 Seems ammo and nitrItes are being converted consistantly now, finally :) I guess the few plants I have are keeping nitrAte levels from building too quickly, which is nice.

May 18 Ammo 0.50... from 2.0 (May16) nitrIte 2.00 or higher nitrAte 40 or so My ph out of tap is around 8.2 but the tank had settled to around 7.4 for a about 6 weeks. I tested ph yesterday and it was in the lower range for the 1st time (6.?). I assume this is a fishless cycle ph crash ? Did...

Day 27 Fishless Cycle, Where are the Nitrites??

I didn't see any nitrItes even after my ammo had been converted, until the day after I added a few fish flakes. The suggestion is that the flakes have nutrients the cycle needs that your water may not have. It could have been coincidence though. It's all a mystery to me at this point. My...

This irish girl needs help :-)

You may want to do a pwc just to reduce that nitrite reading but in general, just try to keep your ammo and nitrite at or less than 0.25, nitrate less than 40 or so. You are better off not using any kind of chemical to adjust your ph. It is more important to keep it stable than to try to force...

HoB: go AquaClear or go home?

Just rinse the sponge and bio rings using water from a pwc, when they become dirty.

    Sorry, another lighting question.

I don't think it would be too much for a 75G if you choose the proper spectrum bulbs. I'm sure some more experienced AA members can tell you exactly what bulbs to choose, depending on what types of plants you want, and if you want to get into co2 and nutrient supplements.

    Sorry, another lighting question.

With 4 bulbs you have plenty of options for picking the correct amount of bulbs for plants depending on the types of plants you want to keep. Maybe 2 x 6700k, 1 x 8,000 to 10,000k and 1 actinic ? I would think you could come up with any combo for low to high light plants.

    keeping substrate clean

I use this one with a sand type substrate... Gravel Cleaner > X Large It helps if you lay the sand out so it is higher around the sides and back of the aquarium so the waste tends to settle in the center front of the aquarium. The flow is adjustable.

    Cycling...

It is frustrating when the trites are so high for so long (weeks), it feels like the cycle is stalled, but I think as long as your trates are rising, then your trites are being converted. In my own first fishless cycle... My trites had that neon glow colour for like 1 month, but a 75% water...
