The fish would be added to the 40 gal fw tank. Yes, the 10 gal tank would end up being vacated as the gold fish would be returned or traded in at a LFS.

Would it be advisable to add 5 zebra danios and 4 cherry barbs at once? That's also taking into consideration that a bristlenose or pitbull pleco would be added too. This tank has been set up and running since last April.

We've got 4 Zebra Danios and I've noticed the same behavior. They'll chase each other every so often, but it isn't something that's caused me concern. I was told that, if the tank can handle it, to get a couple more as they are a schooling fish and would do better.
