Black Algae - sick of it - Redo entire tank?

I have a long established (8-9 years) 55 gal tank, live plants, eco complete for the base. Variety of fresh water fish, not overstocked. All water readings within normal ranges, lighting on for 4 hours a day, no direct sunlight. Fish fed every few days. No CO2. I have been fighting black hair...

Fish died trying to move others to new tank need help!

If the filter media did not dry out, take some tank water and swish it around for a quick cleaning. When everything is moved you need to do water changes weekly not monthly. Keep an eye on the water parameters to figure out how much water you need to change as well.

    3 day vacation

Fish can easily go 3 days without feeding. Feed him the day you leave and when you arrive home.

Cleaning the outside of my tank

Are you sure it is on the outside? If it is mix 50% distilled white Vinegar and 50% water. That will clean it right up.

    Water change?

Weekly water changes. Once you start taking readings and they have stabilized you can figure out how much to change.

    African Dwarf Frog

I have a couple of frogs in my 55 gallon and have eco-complete for substrate. Once a week I try and feed the frogs thawed blood worms but at times they simply are not hungry. When I feed my fish (every other day) I drop some frog pellets around the aquarium as well. Mostly, the fish eat them...

    Water storage tanks

I use a glass aquarium for water storage and it works great. I have a cover and do run a small filter just to keep the water aerated since it sits for a week before I use it.

Top bridge broken: Do I need to replace my tank?

I don't think there is an issue, that might be the least expensive and easiest way to repair the break. I look at it as a repair is never as strong as the original and in the long run is it worth the risk of water damage, loss of fish, etc,

Top bridge broken: Do I need to replace my tank?

I'd replace it. It might be fine but someone may lean on it at some point or a kid reach up and put pressure on it. Look on craigs list.

    Dead fish! Help!

How long passed from setting up your tank to when the gentleman said you were able to add fish? Make sure the tank is cycled - there are a lot of threads on this site about this. If you have not already done so, purchase an API water test kit...

    African Dwarf not eating

I have an african dwarf (for about a year) in my 55 gallon. Normally a couple times a week I will feed him with tweezers thawed blood worms which he goes for. The last few weeks though he is not taking any of them. I've dropped some frog pellets for him in his hiding places but don't know if he...

How long do fish (Neon Tetras) live?

No signs of anything disease that I can see. Nothing could have gotten into the water (windex, etc) as I do not use anything like that near the aquarium. There is really no way to find out about the tap water, you just get passed from person to person. I've tested the tap water for ammonia, Ph...

How long do fish (Neon Tetras) live?

More dead I came into the office this evening and there was another dead neon and a dead guy. Both these fish have been in the tank for a very long time but I find it odd that I have lost 4 fish in a week. I immediately took reading (liquid test kit) and it is as it always is Nitrite - 0...
