All sorted now thanks guys with my nitrate levels

I live in the united kingdom :) the tanks here are marked in litres

I've checked my tap water and I've bettered NO3 yet made NO2 slightly worse.

Well I introduced the bacteria from a bottle that was bought from my local pet store, well I intended to introduce plants to produce the nitrates tomorrow but the nitrate levels are already high? And seeding? do you mean what plants will I put in?

I have a fresh water tank going through the preparation cycle, bacteria was introduced three days ago. I have heard of New Tank syndrome, and my tank is reading 0.5 mg/l. I have been told this is worryingly too high. I don't understand how the levels can be this high as i have yet to introduce...

Okay thanks for the advice joker the fishes body clock and recognition of time was not something I considered. I'll be picking one up tomorrow.

That's the problem the tank has no built in light, the only light reaching the tank is from a window across the room. Thankfully I have no fish in there yet do its no problem if light is required I can pick on up easily.
