    Homocidal Yellow Tang!!!

I have a yellow tang and 4 other fish in my tank, and I added him last. Not only he's not aggressive at all but most of the time he has to watch out for the blue tang who won't of course let him around his territory. Worked for me.

    coralline?

I have a lot of these on my back glass. Fortunately they only grow there where I don't care to scratch them off.

    brownish algae?

Hi guys, some of my Live Rocks are rapidly developing large brownish areas. You can see them in the picture but my camera was too accommodating and gave the thing a nice reddish color. I assure it's much less appealing and browner in reality. Is this just some good kind of coralline algae or...

    Homocidal Yellow Tang!!!

I have never known yellow tangs to be such violent killers. Mine, for instance, is very subdued. But then again you never know. Have you examined the dead fish to actually check if they had been attacked? If the yellow used the barb it should be evident. Also, can you rule out ich?

worms and sponge? please help me identify these

Please help me identify these. The white tube-like things have little reddish 'flowers' sprouting out (they retreat when lit with a flashlight). I have litterally hundreds of these everywhere, the biggest ones are over 1" long. These are worms of some kind. They are all over the edges of the...

    FOWLR

If you're wondering about supplements you shouldn't need any, water changes will do. I do suggest, though, to check your calcium level as it drops with time and needs to be kept right for coralline algae and other stuff to flourish. And yes, LR does help a great deal with filtering. I can't...

    Nitrite and Nitrate test results

two different tests, and they read as no2 and no3 and while no2 should always be zero, the no3 reading carries a different significance in relation to how the tank is set up

    Starfish

I'm suggesting to add the angel and the goby only in addition to the existing tang and 2 percs. I don't like the idea of two tangs in a 50g, let alone with a butterfly. What you're saying is correct; I should have probably mentioned that my tank was in a good state of maturity and balance...

    Starfish

I have successfully added two fromia (milleporella) starfish in a tank your size and less than two months old. Just make sure you use drip acclimation over 4 hours or longer. And as many others will tell you, I think you have room enough for just one more fish, hardly two; maybe the goby and...

    dying fish

I grow more and more convinced every day that keeping a blue tang without a UV sterilizer or a running QT for treatments just means looking for trouble

    URGENT!!!

Assuming you haven't done any treatment whatsoever, I would start QTing the sick fish before they die. Don't underestimate ich even if you think it's not the main issue. Your NO3 and ammonia level would lead to think that also NO2 are low, but make sure to check that as well. Are you sure the...

    hippo with slight ICH

I'm in exactly the same situation. My hippo always gets a slight case of ich whenever I introduce new animals in the tank (yes I throw away the bag water). It generally lasts 2-3 days, and it's minimal (approx 8-10 tiny spots). He scratches a little and gets a clean from the 3 shrimps, and...

the monsters that live in the sand

I'm experiencing something funny: in a corner of my tank, where water circulation is at a minimum, there's an area about 1/2 inch wide beside a large rock (which is acting as a shield from the upper powerhead) that runs along the side of the tank. What happens here? Any kind of detritus, might...

    my pathetic starfish

that's one tough piece of a starfish, still hanging onto life after such a dramatic drop in temp

    Trace Elements

My experience with trace elements, having a fish only tank, is that you don't really need them. But buy a calcium test kit: I have lots of coralline algae and my calcium level had dropped to 325mg/l before I started testing for it. I also have a iodine/magnesium/strontium supplement but I don't...
